I like to think of it as events in a neural network, which is less of a metaphor, unfortunately

Making one would be easy, but you can also get them from EBay 8)

I'm also a really visual person, so this metaphor works for me too. Looks like I'm not alone!

I'm glad it was helpful. It seemed like a really rich analogy when I began thinking through it, so I might get even more mileage from it in the future!

Wow, Peter... I really LOVED this post. I've never heard of a geoboard, but the analogy makes so much sense. I've always known that I get attached to so many different things, but I'm not always aware of what they are. This is a great way to put it since I'm a very visual person.

PS - Now I'm interested in making my own geoboard, just for fun. I've been meaning to put some interesting pieces on my wall, which has been bare for a while now.

You're welcome, and my pleasure. This all needs some pondering.

The two bits that jumped out at me most on first read were "Our parents slipped rubber bands onto pegs for us when we were kids." and "Attach to people pulling in the direction you want to go, and you’ll help each other get there with your combined power." There's lots of other stuff I want to think about, like intermediate pegging.

Interestingly enough, with all my voracious reading, I've never even encountered the idea of a Geoboard before. It's a fascinating analogy. Thanks, Pete!
